Dear Community members,

Due to growing concerns around the latest surge in COVID-19 cases in the San Francisco Bay Area and nationwide, we have decided, with heavy hearts, to cancel the in-person Chuseok Festival scheduled to take place on September 18th at the Presidio of San Francisco.

We have been carefully monitoring the evolving pandemic situation for the past month. While we were very excited about returning to an in-person celebration this year, our top priority is to ensure the safety of our community, including staff and volunteers. We considered various options for mitigating risks, but ultimately made the difficult decision that cancelling the in-person festival would be the safest route given the continued uncertainties surrounding the current pandemic.

Our main Festival partner and Presenting Sponsor, the Presidio Trust, will continue to work with us as we pivot to a fully virtual event and has already reserved an outdoor venue at the Presidio for an in-person Chuseok Festival in Sept. 2022!

As we move to an all-virtual Festival — to be held October 20-27 — we remain committed to delivering a variety of exciting and engaging experiences that reflect the Chuseok Festival’s mission of sharing and celebrating Korean culture. We are also, more than ever, staying true to the Festival’s additional goals of celebrating the strength and resilience of our community as we continue to fight against the pandemic and the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes. As the Festival Planning Team now focuses on designing a robust and diverse virtual program, please stay tuned! Meanwhile click HERE to check out last year’s successful virtual Chuseok Festival.

While we are truly disappointed by having to cancel the in-person event, the Chuseok Festival will live on as a celebration of diverse aspects of Korean and Korean American culture as well as the vibrant and engaged San Francisco Bay Area community. We appreciate your continued interest and support, and look forward to meeting you virtually in two months!

Sincerely,

KCI and the Chuseok Festival Team
