Christy Ahn
KCI Board Member
Morgan Stanley
PROFILE:
Christy is a Morgan Stanley Wealth Management Financial Advisor and previously worked as an Equity Analyst at Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers. She earned her MBA from Columbia Business School (she currently serves on the board of the school’s Bay Area Alumni Club) and her BA from Cornell. She was born in Korea and moved to the US at the age of ten. Christy has two children and lives with her family in San Francisco.
What motivated you to get involved with KCI and join the Board?
After becoming an empty-nester, I wanted to become more active in the community. When I heard of the KCI Chuseok Festival in The Presidio last year, I volunteered a bit with the Festival committee. I was very proud to see a significant Korean cultural holiday presented to the Bay Area and was amazed by the energy and commitment of staff and volunteers. As I met with the Board members, I wanted to get involved as well!
What is your vision for the role of KCI in the Bay Area’s community?
I would love KCI to serve as a cultural, educational and recreational hub, not only for Koreans and Korean Americans, but also for all members of the Bay Area’s community, similar to the way that JCC serves the area. I see opportunities to develop more robust language and other types of educational programs for kids and adults. It would be fun to present books, films, and music to highlight Korean culture to the community at large. Also, I deeply believe in its mission of supporting the underserved immigrants in our community. Seeing the number of elderly in the meal delivery program made me realize that we can do even more. With parents and in-laws in their 80’s, I know firsthand that any kind of computer/software training is always helpful and would have a direct impact in their lives.
How would you like to contribute to KCI’s mission?
I would like to contribute in any way I can. Given my business background, I could provide guidance on the fiscal management of KCI. As a mother, I would like to advocate for more visible, accessible Korean educational programming that I dearly missed when raising my kids in SF. Having immigrated to the US. at the age of 10, I would love to support services for immigrants in the Bay Area.
